C0MMUN1CATE is a secure, end-to-end encrypted V1DE0, V01CE, and MESSENG1NG Collaboration Application based on the Matrix protocol. This open source, C0mmun1cat1on Platform that offers:

• End-to-end encrypted messaging

• Voice and video calls

• File sharing

• Group chats and collaboration tools

• Cross-platform compatibility

• Decentralized architecture that lets you control your data

Unlike many messaging apps, C0MMUN1CATE is built on Matrix, an open standard for secure, decentralized communication that connects millions of users across thousands of deployments.

Step 1: Choose Your Platform

• Web: Visit app.C0MMUN1CATE.io in your browser

• Desktop: Download the appropriate installer from C0MMUN1CATE.io/download for:

  • Windows

  • macOS

  • Linux (Debian/Ubuntu, Fedora, or AppImage)

Step 2: Create Your Account

1. Launch C0MMUN1CATE Web or Desktop application

2. Click "Create Account"

3. By default, C0MMUN1CATE will create an account.

   • For beginners, start with a C0MMUN1CATE Public Sphere Account.  This is a good starting point.

   • For more privacy or control, you may want to choose our C0MMUN1CATE Private Origin for your own Home Origin. This will allow you to maintain full control of your communications and collaborative platform.

Step 3: Enter Your Details

1. We will choose a username (this will become part of your Sphere or Origin ID in the format @username:homeorigin.com) (I think it will be (@XXXXX:C0MMUN1CATE.IO)

2. Create a strong password

3. Optionally, add an email address (highly recommended for password recovery, though it is not a requirement and you will be able to manage your keys and access at all times.)

4. Accept the terms and conditions after reviewing them

5. Click "Register"

Step 4: Email Verification (if provided)

1. Check your email for a verification link

2. Click the link to verify your email address (if selected)

Step 1: Download the App

1. Open the App Store

2. Search for "C0MMUN1CATE" or go directly to C0MMUN1CATE on the App Store

3. Download and install the app

Step 2: Create Your Account

1. Open the C0MMUN1CATE app

2. By default, C0MMUN1CATE will suggest creating an account.

3. For C0MMUN1CATE Public Sphere Accounts, Tap "Create Account"

4. For C0MMUN1CATE Private Origin Accounts, Select Continue without Account. (Your account Administrator has already created the Account for you and you are downloading the application to be able to access your account for the first time.

Step 3: Enter Your Details

1. Choose a username

2. Create a strong password

3. Optionally add an email address (recommended for account recovery)

4. Accept the terms and conditions

5. Tap "Register"

Step 4: Email Verification (if provided)

1. Check your email for a verification link

2. Tap the link to verify your email address

Add Verification if this is not selected -

Add Verification if this is not selected -

Setting up Secure Backup is critical for preserving access to your encrypted messages across devices.

Option 1: Security Key

1. When prompted after first login (or go to Settings > Security & Privacy > Secure Backup)

2. Click "Set up" or "Continue"

3. Choose "Generate a Security Key"

4. Save the generated security key somewhere safe (like a password manager)

5. Click "Continue"

Option 2: Security Phrase

1. When prompted after first login (or go to Settings > Security & Privacy > Secure Backup)

2. Click "Set up" or "Continue"

3. Choose "Enter a Security Phrase"

4. Create a memorable but secure passphrase

5. Click "Continue"

⚠️ Important: If you lose your security key or forget your security phrase, you may lose access to your encrypted message history when logging in on a new device.

After setting up your account, you can explore and join other Origin Communities you have been Authenticated to Join:

1. Look for the "Explore" option (location varies slightly by platform)

   • Web/Desktop: Click "Explore" in the left sidebar

   • Mobile: Tap the "+" icon, then "”Select and Private Origin”"

2. Browse Portals within each Origin (as invited by that Origin Administrator)

   • Default C0MMUN1CATE Public Sphere Home address is (e.g., C0MMUN1CATE.IO)

   • Default C0MMUN1CATE Private Origin Home address is Your Company Name or Coded Address Prefix (e.g. “Private Origin Name”)

   • is your Home Origin

   • You can explore other Origins you have been authenticated to by clicking "Change" in the Explore View

3. To Join Portals once you have been authenticated onto a Private Origin, click/tap "Join".  If within the Origin you are unable to Join a Portal, contact your Origin Administrator for access.  Many Private Origin users will set up with Portals for the company group or topic specialties of the users with access to the Portal.  Portals should be named with the topic or use of the Portal (e.g. Engineering, Human Resources, Legal, All Staff, Project Name, etc.)

Notifications

1. Go to Settings > Notifications

2. Configure default notification preferences:

   • Choose between "All messages", "Mentions only", or "None"

   • Enable or disable sound notifications

   • Set up email notifications (optional)

Privacy Settings

1. Go to Settings > Security & Privacy

2. Review and adjust privacy settings:

   • Analytics sharing

   • Identity Origin usage

   • Message search settings

Profile Customization

1. Go to Settings > General (or click on your avatar)

2. Customize your profile:

   • Change display name

   • Upload a profile picture

   • Set a status message

Password Reset

If you forget your password and have added an email address:

1. Go to the C0MMUN1CATE login page

2. Click "Forgot Password"

3. Enter your email address

4. Follow the instructions in the reset email

Device Verification

When logging in on a new device:

1. You'll be prompted to verify this device with an existing session

2. On your existing device, accept the verification request

3. Compare the emojis or scan the QR code to complete verification

Can't Access Encrypted Messages

If you can't access encrypted messages on a new device:

1. Go to Settings > Security & Privacy

2. If you've set up Secure Backup, enter your security key or phrase

3. If you haven't set up Secure Backup previously, you may not be able to recover past encrypted messages
